Ideal for Montreal Photoshoots

HELLO

I’m Keyris a refined and editorial wedding photographer based in Montreal, specializing in local and destination weddings, as well as luxury elopements. With over 8 years of experience, I bring a unique and detailed eye to every love story, capturing moments that are authentic, timeless, and sophisticated.

As a dreamer and a determined, persistent woman, I find inspiration in the beauty of genuine connections and the natural world.

Whether it’s a quiet glance, a joyful laugh, or a breathtaking backdrop, I aim to preserve the magic of your special day through storytelling and fine art photography.

While I call Montreal home, my passion for capturing love stories has taken me across Canada and beyond including destination weddings in the Dominican Republic, as well as cities like Toronto and Ottawa. My services extend to both local and international weddings, ensuring that no matter where your love takes you, I can be there to document it.

Outside of photography, I’m a landscaper, chess player, and animal lover. These facets of my life enrich my perspective and approach to photography, allowing me to connect deeply with the stories I tell.

Best Locations for Engagement Photos in Montreal

Planning your engagement session is one of the most exciting parts of the wedding experience. Beyond having beautiful photographs together, an engagement session gives you the opportunity to slow down, celebrate this season of your relationship, and become more comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding day.

And when it comes to finding the best locations for engagement photos in Montreal, there is no shortage of incredible options.

From the historic streets of Old Montreal to peaceful gardens, waterfront views, elegant architecture, and natural landscapes, Montreal offers engagement photo locations for almost every style.

As a Montreal wedding and engagement photographer, I always encourage couples to choose a location that not only photographs beautifully but also feels connected to their personalities and relationship.

Here are some of my favorite places for engagement photos in and around Montreal.

1. Old Montreal

![Engagement photos in Old Montreal]

Old Montreal is easily one of the most iconic locations for engagement photography in the city.

Cobblestone streets, historic architecture, beautiful stone buildings, cafés, narrow streets, and European-inspired scenery create an incredibly romantic atmosphere.

One of the biggest advantages of choosing Old Montreal is the variety. Within a relatively short walk, we can create several completely different looks without needing to drive from one location to another.

Some areas can feel sophisticated and editorial, while others create a more relaxed and candid atmosphere.

Perfect for: Romantic, editorial, elegant, cinematic, and timeless engagement photos.

Early mornings are fantastic if you want quieter streets and fewer people in the background. Evening sessions around golden hour are another beautiful option, especially if you want warmer light and a more romantic atmosphere.

2. Montreal Old Port

![Couple engagement photos at Montreal Old Port]

The Old Port is another fantastic engagement photo location, especially for couples who want a combination of city architecture and waterfront scenery.

Depending on where we walk, your gallery can include views of the water, Montreal’s skyline, historic buildings, open spaces, and some of the city’s most recognizable scenery.

It is also very easy to combine the Old Port with Old Montreal during the same engagement session.

This gives couples significantly more variety without spending a large portion of their session traveling between locations.

Perfect for: Couples who want a mixture of urban, waterfront, romantic, and lifestyle photographs.

3. Mount Royal

![Mount Royal engagement photography]

For couples who prefer nature without leaving Montreal, Mount Royal is one of the best options.

The greenery, trails, trees, viewpoints, and changing seasons make it possible to create engagement photographs that feel natural and relaxed.

It is especially beautiful during fall when the leaves begin changing colors.

Rather than focusing heavily on posing, locations like Mount Royal allow us to incorporate walking, movement, conversation, and interaction into the session.

The result is often a gallery that feels very authentic to the couple.

Perfect for: Outdoorsy couples, casual sessions, fall engagement photos, and natural documentary-style photography.

4. Saint Joseph’s Oratory

![Engagement photos at Saint Joseph’s Oratory Montreal]

Saint Joseph’s Oratory offers one of the most impressive architectural backgrounds in Montreal.

The stairs, stone architecture, surrounding gardens, and elevated views provide several possibilities for elegant engagement portraits.

Because of the scale of the architecture, this location can create photographs that feel dramatic and sophisticated while still keeping the couple at the center of the image.

Perfect for: Elegant, architectural, editorial, and sophisticated engagement sessions.

5. Lachine Canal

![Lachine Canal engagement photography Montreal]

If you want something relaxed and less formal, the Lachine Canal is an excellent option.

The combination of waterfront views, greenery, pathways, bridges, and urban elements creates a modern Montreal atmosphere.

This location works particularly well for couples who want their engagement session to feel more like spending an afternoon together rather than participating in a traditional photoshoot.

Walking along the canal also creates plenty of opportunities for natural movement and candid photographs.

Perfect for: Lifestyle, casual, modern, and candid engagement photography.

6. Westmount

![Westmount Montreal engagement photos]

Westmount is a beautiful choice for couples looking for elegant residential architecture, tree-lined streets, parks, and a quieter atmosphere.

Depending on the season, we can incorporate greenery, architecture, staircases, and charming streets to create a sophisticated engagement gallery.

It can be especially beautiful during spring and fall.

Perfect for: Classic, elegant, romantic, and understated engagement photos.

7. Montreal Botanical Garden

![Montreal Botanical Garden engagement photos]

For couples who love flowers, gardens, and greenery, the Montreal Botanical Garden can provide a completely different atmosphere from downtown Montreal.

Seasonal flowers, landscaped gardens, trees, pathways, and beautiful natural backgrounds make it possible to create colorful and romantic photographs.

Because access rules and photography policies can change, I recommend checking the current photography requirements before planning a professional engagement session here.

Perfect for: Romantic, colorful, spring, summer, and nature-inspired engagement photography.

8. Parc Jean-Drapeau

![Parc Jean-Drapeau engagement photography]

Parc Jean-Drapeau offers another great combination of nature and Montreal scenery.

There are open spaces, waterfront areas, greenery, architectural elements, and views toward the city.

Because the park offers so much space, it can also be a good alternative for couples who want their photographs to feel less crowded than some of Montreal’s most popular downtown locations.

Perfect for: Outdoor, modern, relaxed, and sunset engagement sessions.

9. Maison Lavande

![Maison Lavande engagement photos Quebec]

If you’re willing to drive outside Montreal, Maison Lavande can be a beautiful seasonal option.

The lavender fields create a soft and romantic background that looks completely different from a typical urban Montreal engagement session.

Because lavender season is limited, sessions here need to be planned around the blooming period and the property’s current photography policies.

Perfect for: Romantic, dreamy, colorful, and summer engagement photographs.

10. Your Own Neighborhood or Meaningful Location

Sometimes the best engagement photo location isn’t a famous Montreal landmark.

It could be the neighborhood where you live.

The café where you had your first date.

The park where you walk your dog together.

Your favorite bookstore.

Your home.

Or simply a place where you regularly spend time as a couple.

Choosing a meaningful location can make your engagement photographs feel much more personal.

Years from now, you won’t only remember how you looked. You’ll remember that particular chapter of your life together.

How to Choose the Best Engagement Photo Location

Before choosing your location, think about how you want your photographs to feel.

Do you imagine something elegant and editorial?

Romantic and European-inspired?

Casual and documentary?

Surrounded by nature?

Modern and urban?

Instead of choosing a location simply because it is popular on Instagram, choose one that supports the type of photographs you actually want.

I also recommend considering:

  • The season of your engagement session
  • Sunset time
  • Crowds
  • Walking distance
  • Parking
  • Photography permits
  • Outfit choices
  • Whether you want one location or multiple looks

These details can have a surprisingly big impact on the final gallery.

What Is the Best Time for Engagement Photos in Montreal?

For outdoor engagement sessions, I generally recommend scheduling the session around golden hour, shortly before sunset.

The light tends to be softer and warmer, which can create beautiful skin tones and a romantic atmosphere.

However, the best time depends on the location.

Popular places such as Old Montreal can become extremely busy during evenings and weekends. In those situations, an early morning engagement session can sometimes produce even better results.

Montreal also changes dramatically throughout the year.

Spring

Perfect for softer colors, blooming trees, gardens, and fresh greenery.

Summer

Longer evenings and warm golden-hour light make summer one of the easiest seasons for engagement sessions.

Fall

One of my favorite seasons for engagement photography in Montreal because of the incredible colors throughout the city’s parks and natural areas.

Winter

Snow can completely transform Montreal and create beautiful, cinematic engagement photographs. Just make sure you’re prepared for the cold and consider incorporating indoor locations or cafés into the session.

Can We Take Engagement Photos at More Than One Location?

Absolutely.

If your engagement session allows enough time, combining two nearby environments can create significantly more variety.

For example, Old Montreal and the Old Port work extremely well together because we can move between historic architecture, cobblestone streets, waterfront scenery, and urban backgrounds without spending much time driving.

For sessions involving locations farther apart, I recommend allowing additional time so the experience doesn’t feel rushed.

What Should We Wear for Engagement Photos?

Your clothing should complement the environment without making you feel like you’re wearing a costume.

Neutral and earthy colors photograph beautifully in many Montreal locations, but that doesn’t mean you have to avoid color.

More importantly, your outfits should coordinate with each other rather than match exactly.

For longer engagement sessions, you can also consider bringing two looks:

Look 1: Something elegant or elevated.

Look 2: Something relaxed and representative of your everyday style.

I provide posing and session guidance so you don’t have to arrive already knowing what to do in front of the camera.

Your Engagement Session Should Feel Like You

The best engagement photographs aren’t created simply by finding a beautiful location.

The location is the background.

Your connection is the story.

My approach combines editorial portraits with candid and documentary moments so your gallery can include both beautifully composed photographs and the small interactions that actually feel like you.

Whether we’re walking through Old Montreal, exploring Mount Royal, photographing sunset near the water, or documenting an afternoon in your own neighborhood, the goal is to create photographs that feel intentional without feeling forced.
