Rose and Tolu – Montreal Wedding at the Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul
About the event
On May 17th, 2025, Rose and Tolu exchanged vows in one of the most beautiful and meaningful ceremonies I’ve ever had the honor of capturing. Their wedding took place at the iconic Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul in Montreal, a space steeped in history and architectural grandeur. From the very first time we connected, Rose and Tolu made it clear that their love story was one of intentionality, faith, and strong cultural values. As a Black female wedding photographer based in Montreal, being chosen to document their journey was not only a privilege, it was a deeply personal experience that reminded me why I do, what I do.
What stood out immediately about Rose and Tolu was their genuine connection and thoughtfulness. They booked me well in advance, something I always appreciate because it allows us to create a relationship of trust leading up to the big day. Before the wedding, we had an unforgettable private photoshoot at World Trade Centre Montréal that felt more like spending time with old friends. We laughed, shared stories, and captured natural moments that reflected their chemistry and shared sense of joy. That shoot laid the foundation for everything that followed, it allowed them to feel relaxed and confident in front of the camera, and it gave me the opportunity to really understand what made their bond so special.
From the beginning, they shared how much they valued working with someone who not only understood photography but also deeply respected and celebrated their cultural identity. They expressed gratitude for my calm and patient approach, which made them feel truly seen and cared for throughout the process. These are qualities I bring intentionally to every shoot, especially when working with couples from diverse backgrounds. Representation matters. Feeling safe and understood matters. Rose and Tolu’s experience is proof that when you choose a photographer who shares your values and honours your story, the results go far beyond beautiful images they become timeless memories filled with meaning.
Their wedding day was a perfect reflection of their love: elegant, emotional, and rich in tradition. The Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul offered a breathtaking backdrop with its stained-glass windows, cathedral ceilings, and timeless ambiance. It was the kind of setting that added gravitas to every step, every glance, every whispered vow. As the guests arrived, dressed in colourful, stylish attire that reflected the couple’s African roots, there was an atmosphere of celebration and reverence. This was more than a ceremony, it was a joyful declaration of love that carried generations of dreams forward.
One of the most touching parts of the day was the quiet anticipation before the ceremony. In those sacred behind-the-scenes moments, when Rose was getting ready, surrounded by her family and friends, there was laughter, happy tears, and a calm sense of confidence in the air. Her dress was a vision of grace and elegance, and her radiant smile lit up every frame. Meanwhile, Tolu stood tall and poised, exuding both excitement and a peaceful sense of purpose as he waited to see his bride. These are the in-between moments I live for—the moments that often go unseen, but carry the weight of the entire day’s emotion.
When the music began and Rose walked down the aisle, the room filled with collective awe. All eyes were on her, but Tolu’s were the ones that said it all. His expression spoke volumes, love, respect, admiration, and complete devotion. The ceremony itself was heartfelt and spiritual, full of powerful words, blessings, and songs that honoured their faith and heritage. Every exchange between them was deeply sincere and moving. As a storyteller behind the lens, capturing those moments felt like holding something sacred, like preserving a truth that would live on for generations.
After the ceremony, we took time for portraits inside and around the church. The light streaming through the stained glass, the stone columns, and the ivy-covered walls provided the perfect canvas for their love to shine. Then came the reception, where the mood shifted to pure celebration. From the vibrant African music and emotional toasts to the cultural dances and heartfelt speeches, every detail spoke to who they are as individuals, and who they are together. Family, culture, and legacy were at the heart of it all.
Throughout the day, my goal was always to document not just what things looked like, but how they felt. I focused on genuine emotion, intimate glances, spontaneous laughter, and the ways their families came together in joy. That’s what wedding photography is truly about, not just capturing a day, but telling a story that feels alive every time you revisit it.
Working with Rose and Tolu reminded me that trust is everything in this work. When couples feel comfortable, respected, and celebrated for who they are, the magic unfolds naturally. That’s what I offer to every client I serve especially to couples looking for a wedding photographer in Montreal who understands culture, community, and representation.
